ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

Creativity is woven into the fabric of Clonterbrook. Alongside our Gallery, Music Room and inspiring rural setting, we are proud to be home to a small community of resident artists who create, teach and share their work from studios on site.

Our Artists in Residence bring a wealth of experience, skill and imagination to Clonterbrook, offering visitors the opportunity not only to discover their work, but also to learn directly from them through a programme of workshops and creative experiences.

Whether you're looking to develop a new skill, reconnect with your creativity, or simply spend time in an inspiring environment, these workshops provide a welcoming space to explore, create and be inspired. Set amongst the gardens, fields and historic buildings of Clonterbrook, they offer a chance to slow down, learn something new and engage with the arts in a truly unique setting.

Meet our resident artists below and discover the workshops they host throughout the year.

Alison Stafford

Working from her lovely light filled studio, Alision is currently exploring Abstract Landscapes, inspired everyday by the wonderful surrounds of Clonterbrook.

Alison's transitional approach draws on the concept of the palimpsest, reshaping and layering existing forms until she is happy that the balance of composition and colour are complete.

She works in Acrylics, and Oils and uses various mixed media to deliver the line or form required to communicate her ideas, and colour to evoke a mood or emotion.

Alison has won several awards for her work, including Abstract Artist of The Year (2024), Finalist 2025 and 2026, and has been part of several exhibitions including the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA), Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) and SWA at Mall Galleries, London and also exhibited at OXO Tower in London as Finalist of the British Art Prize.

She holds regular workshops for artists that seek to bring experimentation and play to their art practice. Her students appreciate the tranquility Clonterbrook affords, as it encourages the flow of creative ideas without the daily distractions of modern life, and they often sketch in the grounds to get inspiration for their paintings completed in the studio.
